Democratic Socialists of America: Klamath Falls Chapter

Statement of Purpose:

The Democratic Socialists of America, while not a political party, is part of the largest and most influential socialist organization in the United States.

We advocate for the evolution of our country’s institutions to promote the happiness, autonomy, and self-actualization of all. We acknowledge the history and the structural barriers that alienate us politically, socially, economically, and spiritually. We seek to remove those barriers.

We hold the conviction that moving away from our capitalist and neoliberal institutions and toward a sustainable and Green economy are foundational and necessary to human freedom. Changes may look like expanding worker-cooperatives, public control of basic utilities, a Green New Deal, healthcare for all, college for all, and powerful labor movements.

We encourage civic participation, questioning, debate, and education aimed to uplift all people. In promoting democracy, we aim to compassionately confront our own histories, and break down cultural and material impediments to liberation that involve class, religion, race and ethnicity, neural and physical ability, and gender and sexual identity.

KF DSA wants to expand both membership and voices, continually growing this inclusive movement for change.

The fuel to the fire is found in dividing people through mythological pasts, victimhood, conspiracy theories, anti-intellectualism, scapegoating, and toxic militarism. Democratic Socialists of Klamath Falls response to the City Council Postponement of the Equity Task Force Resolution - November 16, 2020 The reluctance of the Klamath Falls City Council to pass the resolution of the Equity Task Force on November 16 th , acknowledging racism and income inequality as a social crisis, was demonstrative of the lack of awareness of the lives of non-dominant groups. The reduction of social well-being to economic incentives confines individual worth to profits. Equity Task Force members stated that acknowledging and dealing with racism is simply the “right thing to do,” though if this must be reduced to economic motives, its passage would shine brightly on city visitors and leadership, enabling a more welcoming community atmosphere. Equity Task Force members and citizens presented documentation and heartbreaking testimony, yet still faced the reticence of the council.
